Take a break from holidays (2023) and global matters of greater importance! It’s now been one decade since Mad Fiber, a curious Seattle startup, went missing after five years and 3k pairs of wheels.
Hats off to those on the team who contributed impressive work. Many supporters and customers around the world were also vital. The venture was a complex bunch of events—vision, development, collaboration, economics (2008 financial crisis and aftermath), mistakes, and heroic efforts.
Here are a few descriptions.

A 2012, 14 min overview of the project, courtesy of Peleton Magazine.
An enthusiastic, 1 min visit to the 2013 Interbike booth, where a 398g front wheel was on display.
“How it’s Made” did a 4 min description of manufacturing in 2011.
UK journalist Dave Everett paid a visit in 2011, resulting in an entertaining, 6 min clip.
Kirk Burpee did a nearly 7 min, enthusiastic personal review.
Lastly, IG hosts over 2k #madfiber posts , largely colorful images of wheels on high end road bikes.
What happened? Mad Fiber was liquidated along with its recent owner's other cycling properties, Serotta and Blue. If you have questions or contributions, please leave comments.

Somehow I’d never come across Mad Fiber before. Immediately I wondered if Mavic took some inspiration or insight from the former. Thanks for sharing!
