Here is a very accurate way to measure spoke length—a digital linear scale with 2 year lithium battery (2032), mounted to a half-inch mahogany base, with fittings to make fast accurate spoke measurements. The display turns on when moved and shuts down after 30 idle seconds. It can be recalibrated but retains accuracy for years.

A finished wheel is the consequence of ERD measurement, tension, stress relieving, and spoke length. The more precise the measurement, the greater control over the process.
