The MADE Show was fantastic. So glad to see so many inspired builders of frames and wheels!
At last, a super effective, clear, odorless, non-toxic, FOOD SAFE, biodegradable oil for wheel building.
Wheel Fanatyk CLEAR meets high performance standards but takes toxicity seriously. To understand mans seeing through over-simplified labels like "environmental," "biodegradable," "green," "natural," etc. For those of you who do, you are lucky. Choices like this are key to living well in the 21st century. To download CLEAR's MSDS, click here.
It must be boiled so it will eventually harden. Today Boiled Linseed Oil retains the name "boiled" but no longer is. The equivalent chemistry is done with additives that are not specified. Toxics in these additives are overlooked because, today, linseed oil is intended as a paint ingredient. Why expose yourself?
Boiled linseed oil dries by oxidizing. In a warm and humid atmosphere, drying can take several weeks, too long for busy schedules. Oxidation releases heat and flammable materials (textiles, paper towels, wood chips) containing boiled linseed oil want to catch fire. Closing the container limits oxygen so the fire may be suppressed but the tendency to burst into flames makes boiled linseed oil a substance to handle with care.
