A dirth of posts is an indicator of too much activity. Handmade Show was terrific. Austin graced us with lovely weather and its distinctive hospitality. Exhibitors outdid themselves. And the winners were worthy.
We had booth 415, a very nice corner spot.
Crowds were generous and enthusiastic. We met lots of wood rim fans.
Jon brought a bamboo spoked wheels using Ghisallo clincher rims. Will he perfect these and offer them for sale? The weight of each wheel is under 1kg, pretty normal for a city bike. Stay tuned!
The Brett Horton Special (Shelley's bike) by Bilenky won "Best Lugged Bike."
Brett's man's bike was an eye catcher, too.
Perennial champ, Sam Whittingham took "People's Choice" overall, but no wood rims this year. Oregon icon, Mark Dinucchi won "Best in Show," an inspiration for fading greats. Confident understatement and consummate balance are aesthetics more easily accessed with maturity.
I presented a seminar twice: "It Wheel Be Good." A goofy title is owed to the creative promoters.
Next year's show is in Sacramento. Look forward to seeing more of you there!
